The Basic objective of the organization was to work for Special Education, Therapeutic service, clinical Service, Pre- Vocational & Vocational Training and Rehabilitation for Disabled persons of the area.

As a first step a Special School was started with four children and one Special Educator, The school was located in a small rented house at Barjora.

As there was no other Special school within more than 40 K.M. The school has now rendering its meritorious services towards the 123 nos. of Special children.

The categories of Differently Able children attended the school are

1) Mentally Challenged
2) Autistic
3) Students with Cerebral Palsy
4) Multiple Disabled
5) Hearing Impaired.

The centre has been getting Grant-in-Aid from Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India. Barjora Ashar Alo has a total no. of 123 special children in its two premises. All the teachers and therapists of Barjora Ashar Alo are trained in the respective training Institutes of the Govt. of India viz, NIMH, NIHH, NIOH, Shelter, Alokendu bodhniketan, Durgapur HOPE etc.

The teachers and staff of this centre are dedicated to work for achieving the objective of organization.

The Society is managed by Executive members who are Educationists, Social workers, Business Men, etc. President, Secretary and some of the members of Barjora Ashar Alo happen to be parents of Special children. We are therefore, trying to get a suitable plot of land wherein we may construct a school building for Barjora Ashar Alo. Barjora Ashar Alo has the full support of the local population, local and the district administration and Govt. of West Bengal through its department of welfare.

It’s working steadfastly towards the following objectives

1) To provide special Education to the Mentally Challenged to make them independent with regard to activities of daily living, Social skills and Vocational Skills to empower them for rehabilitation in main stream society.

2) For the hearing impaired students, care is taken to develop their Speech and Communication using aids, appliances and training.

One student from here is enabled to overcome school final examination in normal schools in due course of time and also to accomplish Higher Education . One student is reading in the open school and is preparing for the board examination under the supervision of Barjora Ashar Alo.

Moreover, the amount of grant received by the centre falls short considerably every year and it meets only 70% of the expenditure, the grant-in-aid is not received in time. We are therefore facing persistent fund problems to pay monthly honorarium to our teachers and staff and these affects the morality of the teachers and staff working in the organization . For shortage of funds we can’t recruit proficient teachers and therapists, especially therapists such as Speech Therapists and Audiologist, and Clinical Psychologists etc. We are also working in the project of PC&PNDT, Ministry of health, West Bengal Government.
